Understanding Ear Infections in Children

Ear infections (otitis media) affect millions of children each year. They occur when bacteria or viruses infect the space behind the eardrum. Young children are particularly susceptible because of the angle of their Eustachian tubes.

Common Symptoms

  • Ear pain, especially when lying down
  • Tugging or pulling at an ear
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Crying more than usual
  • Trouble hearing

When to See a Doctor

If your child has a high fever, severe ear pain, or symptoms lasting more than 2-3 days, consult your pediatric ENT specialist promptly.
